Featured Financed Projects

A selection of major projects Kenneth has advised on, structured, and helped bring to financial close through the U.S. Department of Energy's Loan Programs Office.

DOE Loan Programs Office · Closed Jan 2025

Montana Renewables — SAF Expansion

$1.67 Billion

DOE loan guarantee financing the expansion of a renewable fuels facility in Great Falls, Montana to produce sustainable aviation fuel, renewable diesel, and renewable naphtha. Upon completion, Montana Renewables is expected to produce approximately half of all North American SAF and about 12% of global SAF through 2030.

📍 Great Falls, Montana ✈️ ~315M gal/yr biofuels capacity 🔗 DOE Energy Infrastructure Reinvestment
DOE Conditional Commitment · Oct 2024

Gevo Net-Zero 1 — Alcohol-to-Jet SAF Plant

$1.46 Billion

Conditional DOE loan guarantee commitment for the world's first large-scale net-zero-emissions alcohol-to-jet (ATJ) SAF production facility in Lake Preston, South Dakota. The project is designed to produce ~60 million gallons of SAF per year, along with ~1.3 billion pounds of protein and animal feed products annually.

📍 Lake Preston, South Dakota ✈️ ~60M gal/yr SAF capacity 🌽 100% U.S.-sourced feedstocks
DOE Conditional Commitment · Jul 2024

IRG Erie — Mechanical Plastics Recycling Facility

$182.6 Million

DOE Title 17 conditional loan guarantee to finance construction of a large-scale mechanical plastics recycling facility in Erie, Pennsylvania, processing ~160,000 tons/yr of post-consumer waste plastic into recycled PET, HDPE, and PP materials — plus CleanRed™, a novel plastic-waste-based iron-reducing agent for domestic steel manufacturers.

📍 Erie, Pennsylvania & NW Indiana ♻️ ~100,000 tons/yr recycled plastics 🏭 First U.S. plastic-to-steel reductant facility
Project Development · Opened Oct 2015

DuPont — World's Largest Cellulosic Ethanol Plant

30M Gal / Year

As Global Business Director for Cellulosic Ethanol/Enzymes at DuPont, Kenneth was one of the key leaders in developing this landmark biorefinery in Nevada, Iowa — the world's largest cellulosic ethanol facility at opening. The plant converts corn stover (stalks, leaves, and cobs left after harvest) into clean fuel delivering a 90% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to gasoline, supplying ~500 local farmers within a 30-mile radius.

📍 Nevada, Iowa, USA 🌽 375,000 dry tons/yr corn stover feedstock 🏆 World's largest cellulosic ethanol plant at opening ♻️ 90% GHG reduction vs. gasoline
Strategic Partnership · Announced Aug 2020

GranBio × NextChem — Global 2G Ethanol Licensing Alliance

Global Scale

As Chief Commercial Officer of GranBio, Kenneth negotiated this landmark strategic partnership with NextChem (Maire Tecnimont's energy transition subsidiary) to achieve global leadership in licensing GranBio's patented 2G cellulosic ethanol technology. The alliance combines GranBio's proprietary biomass-to-biofuel technology — already proven at industrial scale in South America — with NextChem's EPC capabilities and worldwide presence across ~50 countries to commercialize second-generation ethanol plants globally.
